Major General Ivan Popov was sentenced to 5 years in prison in a general regime colony. This decision was made by the Tambov Garrison Military Court.
At the last meeting, the state prosecution asked to give Popov 6 years. In addition, impose a fine of 800 thousand rubles on him. The former commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces was arrested on May 17, 2024.
The investigation believes that in 2023 he was involved in the theft of 1.7 thousand tons of rolled metal products, which were purchased by the authorities of the Zaporozhye region as humanitarian aid. The major general himself denies the accusations.
Earlier, Popov’s lawyer reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense agreed to send Ivan to the North Military District zone. This question remains open.
