The world of world sport is in shock after Daniel Naroditsky, a young chess champion considered one of the greatest talents of his generation, died unexpectedly aged just 29.
The news was confirmed by his club, the Charlotte Chess Center, which released an official statement on Monday evening, without disclosing the cause of death.

Daniel was a gifted player, a dedicated educator and a beloved member of the international chess community. He was also a loyal son, brother and friend.

The champion became a symbol of the young generation
Daniel Naroditsky, born in 1995 in California, became a “grandmaster”, the highest honor for chess players, at only 18 years old, in 2013. A graduate of the prestigious Stanford University, Naroditsky was known not only for his competitive performances, but also for his immense contribution to the popularization of online chess.
He had over 340,000 followers on Twitch and nearly half a million on YouTube, where he analyzed matches and offered strategy lessons to millions of fans around the world.

The news of his passing caused an outpouring of sadness in the chess community. Among the first to react was US No. 1 Hikaru Nakamura, who wrote:
“I am devastated. It is a huge loss for the world of chess. Daniel was not only a genius but also an extraordinary person.”
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) sent its condolences to the family:

Mystery surrounding his death
The cause of death has not been made public, and the circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear.
Online, several fans reported that Naroditsky appeared “visibly distressed” during his last live broadcast, and the clip was later deleted.
Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik called for a full investigation:
“It's a terrible tragedy. I hope everything will be investigated properly and to the end.”
US authorities have not provided official details, and the family has asked for total discretion during this period, according to the Daily Mail.
