The Cypriot coach appeared bemused by the second-half collapse, speaking of his students' tendency to drop off in expression and concentration during matches. Moreover, he suggested, between the lines, that he feels an attitude problem in the locker room.
Finally, he tried to offer reasons for optimism: “I know very well how we can get out of this mess.”
Elias Charalambous, after Metaloglobus – FCSB 2-1: “The attitude of the players is a problem”
“It was a game where I had other things on my mind, to be honest. We started the game well, we controlled it, we also had a big chance at the end, to score the second goal, which we didn't manage. In general, in the first half, I can say that we did the things we had to do. Then in the second half, I don't understand what happened.
I got empty, then stopped the engines. And this didn't just happen today. In many games, we managed to score in the first half, then things changed in the second half. I am trying to find the reasons behind this, it worries me, but I have to be more responsible.
At the end of the day, the players have to take responsibility toobut I am always the first to take responsibility. It's a difficult time, we didn't expect it. We had two games, we won them, now we took a step back. We have been doing this since the beginning of the season. We take two steps back, two steps back. It's very, very hard. Fans are disappointed and that's normal.
We are a big club and we have to show it on the pitch. Of course, I can't say we're not disappointed. I want to apologize to the fans, but it's not enough, we have to prove it on the pitch. Sure, we have the power to come back. It doesn't help that I come here to apologize. I never give in in difficult times, I always try to help.
We must forget what happened in the past. We are talking about another season. We have to show that we can do much more. Today, we didn't have many players available, almost everyone played. Everyone gets chances. The thing is, when they get it, they have to prove it.
It's normal for fans to react. They are used to a different situation, championships, good games in Europe. They are people and I understand them. All over the world, when the team doesn't win, especially us, the biggest team in Romania, I understand them.
When we win, they sing for us, we're like heroes. When we lose, they criticize us. It's normal. That's football. I understand and apologize. I am used to such situations and I know very well how we can get out of this mess. We have to be calm and find the balance to improve the game.
From the moment I sat here, I didn't make excuses about injuries or suspensions, that's football. We have to find solutions. If we consider ourselves a big club, that's what we have to do. Sure, I'm worried that we have a few players unavailable, but that's not why we lost today.
I was wrong somewhere today, that's for sure. It's the attitude of the players, really. I need to analyze what happened today.
We can't talk about the title yet, first we have to win games, then we can think. We will see game by game what chances we have in the play-offs. I don't want to talk about the championship, about Europe, I just want to think about the next game.
Today, everyone expected us to win. The most important match is always the next one”, are the ideas expressed by Charalambous at the press conference.
Gigi Becali: “Should I change the coach in the middle of the European campaign?”
In parallel, Gigi Becali was live on TVat DigiSport, asked if he is considering dismissing the Cypriot and Mihai Pintilii. Here's how he responded:
“What should I do, who should I put in? To change the coach in the middle of the European campaign… Let's see. Let's see. It's that easy. Pintilii said to me after the last beat: “Mister Gigi, maybe it's good for us to leave, let another coach come”. “Go away, mind your own business”. He doesn't understand either”.
