Donald Trump's economic policy, his approach to international relations and energy transformation may – according to prof. Zbigniew Krysiak, chairman of the Program Council of the Institute of Schuman Thought – bring tangible benefits to Poland.

The economist points out that if we are able to cooperate with the American administration and take advantage of bilateral relations, completely new opportunities may open up for our country and industry. All the more so because – also as a result of trends from overseas – there is more and more talk about reducing the pace of energy transformation.
– Donald Trump's policy has caused a stir around the world, but also caused certain impulses that may change the European Union's approach to energy transformation. This economic suffering, which results from the European Union's efforts to create a superstate, affects countries with common sense – such as Poland – says the Newseria agency prof. Zbigniew Krysiak.
– About 30 percent German companies plan to move their operations outside the EU precisely because of energy costs. This may lead to deregulation and changes in EU policy.
This year, the European Commission announced the Omnibus deregulation packages, which correct the pace and method of implementing regulations, adapting requirements to economic realities and the needs of enterprises. One of the most important changes is the postponement of the deadlines for non-financial reporting obligations, which gives companies more time to prepare data collection systems, environmental and social impact analyzes and implement procedures consistent with the CSRD, CSDD directives and other regulations regarding responsibility in the supply chain (ESG).
According to prof. Krysiak the process of changing the EU's approach to the Green Deal may prove beneficial for Poland, especially if our country is able to effectively use the opportunities that are opening up. The economist indicates that areas of strategic importance may include cheap energy sources, gas and oil supplies, as well as cooperation in the field of technology.
Although the Trump administration's customs policy is controversial, the chairman of the Program Council of the Schumann Institute also sees positive aspects for Poland.
– Donald Trump's introduction of higher customs duties does not significantly worsen the situation of the Polish economy – notes prof. Zbigniew Krysiak. – Increasing trade in virtually all areas is possible. Today, trade with the USA is only 1/5 of that with Germany. Thanks to cooperation with the United States, we can accelerate the construction of nuclear power plants, including small SMR reactors. Poland also has great potential in the heavy and arms industry – our companies already provide the US army with advanced missile control systems.
Technology transfer may also be an important element of this cooperation.
– Americans invest, we produce, and the result is an increase in GDP and the development of innovation. Importing know-how will create added value and increase productivity. Donald Trump is communicating his willingness to treat Poland in a special way, if only we could cooperate with him – says the expert. – Poland may gain a privileged position in access to artificial intelligence chip technology, which will be a key factor of competitive advantage in the coming decades.
In his opinion, vJoint actions with the USA may also open Poland's access to the huge Indian market of 1.4 billion peoplebecause the scale of this market requires cooperation with a large partner – such as the United States. America can also provide Poland with cheap energy, gas and modern technologies that Germany is unable to offer. In turn, Poland could become a bridge between the USA and Europe, a kind of American bridgehead on the Old Continent, and the United States itself will gain in importance in Polish foreign trade.
For now, the USA is Poland's eighth partner in exports and imports by shipping country and the third in imports by country of origin.. The number one place in all categories belongs to Germany, which received 26.9% from January to July 2025. Polish exports. However, our country received goods and services worth over a quarter of all imports; almost one fifth was produced in Germany. However, the differences between Poland's subsequent trading partners are much smaller than the distance between Germany and the rest of the group.
– Without a doubt, the United States will become the second economy, after Germany, with which we will have such strong cooperation, and in the future even the first one. This will result from the fact that we need to appeal to inexhaustible gas resources, sources of cheap energy in the United States, and to the enormous resources when it comes to the development of nuclear technologies, which Germany will not offer and does not have such an opportunity. At the same time, the interest of the United States is to maintain a strong position in Europe and the Three Seas countries, and at the same time have a strong position in Ukraine – predicts Prof. Zbigniew Krysiak.
