Residents of Spain, Portugal and Andorra were left without electricity – locals are complaining about a large-scale power outage throughout the Iberian Peninsula and in some areas of France.
People have problems with access to Wi-Fi and mobile Internet, there is no light in their homes, businesses and stores, traffic lights and elevators are down. There is no metro in Lisbon. In Madrid, the match of the major tennis tournament of a thousand people, the Madrid Open, had to be suspended – the computers froze, the Hawk-eye camera was stuck above the court. In Valencia, there is a voltage drop on the railway tracks, which is why the movement of high-speed trains has been suspended.
The light went out around 12:30 local time (13:30 Moscow time). The reason for the large-scale blackout has not yet been reported. Grid operator Red Electrica says it is working with distribution companies to restore electricity supplies.
