Starting January 1 next year, the price of a one -day vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes in Bulgaria will be 4.09 euros. The structure of the tariffs respects the principle of proportionality, the shorter validity periods having higher costs related to the duration, in accordance with the current tariffs for vignettes, according to the worse.

For heavy or oversized vehicles, the traffic without the appropriate permits or exceeding the dimensions, weight or load on the prescribed axis will attract a compensatory fee of 1,200 lev (about 613.55 €).

Authorities state that this tax is intended to discourage violations: it exceeds the cost of the necessary permits, but remains lower than the official fines, discouraging unauthorized use of tax roads.

In addition, the taxes for highways expressly not included in the tariff will be aligned at highways. A new provision establishes taxes for issuing permit for notified bodies that evaluate the conformity of the suppliers of the European Electronic Taxation Service.

These comprehensive updates reflect the preparations of Bulgaria for the transition to the euro, while modernizing the regulatory framework for the use of roads and compliance with taxes.

So far, the Romanian drivers who were transiting Bulgaria were oblique to buy 30 -day vignettes.
