The PSD is no longer self -defined as a “progressive” party, as it appears in the current status, but as a party “attached to democratic, national, religious, traditional and cultural values”.
The modification in the PSD statute was proposed in the Monday meeting of the National Political Council.
Article 8 of the PSD status is amended as follows:
“The Social Democratic Party is a modern center-left party, a promoter of social equity and solidarity, attached to democratic, national, religious, traditional and cultural values, with a pro-European orientation and a firm commitment to the Euro-Atlantic cooperation. He is a member of the Socialist and Socialist Socialist Party, and Romanian ”.
Now, this article in the Status provides:
“The Social Democratic Party is a modern and progressive left party, a national party with European vocation, a member of the Party of European Socialists and the Socialist International, the continuator of the tradition of Romanian Social Democracy.”
Grindeanu: The modification shows that PSD is not a party of ideological experiments
“I gave up the idea of progressive party, because the definition adopted in the 2000s has nothing to do with what it represents today.
By this modification, the PSD reaffirms that it is a modern center-left, national and balanced party, which promotes social equity, solidarity and respect for the democratic, religious, traditional and cultural values of the Romanian people.
The new formulation of the status reflects, without any trace of ambiguity, what PSD is and has always been: a party of Romania, not of ideological experiments; a party of values and social responsibility, not of imported progressive labels; A pro-European party and firmly employed in Euro-Atlantic cooperation, but with solid roots in the national identity ”, says the interim leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, in a statement sent after the party meeting.
“It is a doctrinal clarification”
In the press conference held at the end of the PSD meeting, the new party spokesman, Alexandru Rafila, said that the term “progressive” has acquired in recent years other connotations compared to 25 years ago, when it has been in the status of the formation:
“This status is 25. In 25 years, this deadline was also expanded and took another connotation ”.
Asked about the European family and the left doctrine, which is progressive, Rafila replied:
“Each party has its identity. Every country in Europe has certain cultural characteristics and the fact that the PSD has adopted this definition do not think it prevents or contradicts the European family.”
Asked if the changes are made to compete better with gold, Rafila said that “this problem has not been put. It is what we all feel as members of the PSD.”
The Social Democrats met today from 4 pm and established the convening of the Congress for November 7 when the new president will be elected. After almost half a year of interim of Sorin Grindeanu, the Social Democrats will choose a new president. The decision was made on the same day that Titus Corlățean, the only announced counter -candidate, announced that he is withdrawing from the race.
PSD has set the day when the next party president will be elected
