The Russian Federation accused the United States of a “brazen campaign” in the Caribbean. The US declared a “critical point”

The UN Security Council meeting was an emergency; it was convened at the request of Venezuela and was chaired by the aggressor country, Russia.

In particular, they discussed attacks by the US military on ships allegedly used to transport drugs (official Washington reported four such attacks).

UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenča believes that “this military presence has increased the existing tension between the two countries.”

“We continue to emphasize the need for all efforts to combat transnational organized crime to be carried out in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter. We reiterate our call for de-escalation and the avoidance of any actions that may threaten international peace and security in the region,” he said.

The ambassador of the aggressor country Russia to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, also made his comment. According to him, Venezuela is “subject to unprecedented pressure and the threat of military invasion.” The Russian also said that “large-scale US military activity is unfolding, directly threatening regional and international peace and security.

The representative of the US mission to the UN, John Kelly, said that the administration of US President Donald Trump is “leading an offensive against the drug trade and drug cartels” in order to destroy them.

“The United States has reached a critical point where we must use force in self-defense and the defense of others,” he said.

The American diplomat stressed that “the scale of attacks is limited for now,” but the United States is ready for additional military operations “as necessary.”

The Venezuelan representative complained of a “propaganda campaign and disinformation” from the United States and accused Washington of “belligerent actions.”

According to him, the United States has deployed “more than 10 thousand military personnel, combat aircraft, missile destroyers and cruisers, landing troops, special operations equipment, and even a nuclear submarine” near Venezuela. The Venezuelan diplomat does not rule out the possibility that “an armed attack will be carried out against Venezuela in the near future.”

Context

In August 2025, the White House announced its readiness “use all elements of power”to stop the flow of drugs into the country. According to media reports, they were talking about deploying ships opposite Venezuela, including three destroyers with guided missiles and ships with infantrymen.

After this, Nicolas Maduro, whom Washington calls an illegitimate president, announced the mobilization of the militia in Venezuela.
