This year's Nobel Peace Prize winner is the leader of the democratic opposition in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday.

Machado was honored for her “tireless work on behalf of the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for fighting for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

On Friday, in the afternoon Polish time, the laureate posted an entry on the X platform. “This recognition of the struggles of all Venezuelans is an impulse to fulfill our task: to gain freedom. We stand on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the nations of Latin America and the democratic countries of the world as our main allies in striving for freedom and democracy. I dedicate this award to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his strong support of our cause! — wrote Maria Corina Machado.
