The oligarch Andrej Babis, the leader of the ANO and winner of the Czech-legislative elections, announced on Wednesday that if he manages to form a government, he will end any form of military aid directly granted to Ukraine, a decision indicating a clear break from the supporting policy of the Kiev, of press.
“We will not give Ukraine any crown (Czech currency, no) from our weapons budget,” said the businessman and former prime minister, who has already promised this measure in the election campaign, according to Agerpres.
Babis has indicated that the EU already gives Ukraine military, humanitarian and economic aid from the Community budget, to which the Czech Republic contributes by about 2.4 billion euros, and does not consider it necessary to increase this support with direct aid.
He also said that he would revoke the Czech initiative on ammunition, through which Prague has acquired surpluses of large -caliber projectiles from countries outside the European Union, as well as funding to send them to the Ukrainian army.
Thus, Babis suggests that he is going to ignore the recommendation of the Czech president, Petr Paul, who was urging that initiative, which the tycoon considers a little transparent, although he was appreciated by the head of NATO, Mark Rutte, during his recent visit to Prague on the occasion of the second summite dedicated to the International Institute, (Iiss).
“We do not know what it is, we only know that private entities earn tens of billions (of Czech crowns) on behalf of the Ukrainians,” said Babis, who said that the initiative “was good”, but criticized its lack of transparency.
The ANO leader pleaded for NATO to transparent a program that would facilitate common purchases and maintenance tasks for a cost reduction.
