A city in Russia decreed mourning for soldiers killed in the war even on Vladimir Putin's birthday

The city of Pokrovsk in the Republic of Saha (Iakutia) in Russia declared three days of mourning, between 7 and 9 October, for Russian soldiers killed in the war against Ukraine, the flags being lowered in Bern, and all the entertainment events were canceled, the 7 × 7 – Horizontal Telegram, Russia reported on Tuesday.
The decree of this mourning coincided with the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin, celebrating the 73th anniversary on Tuesday.
According to the Russian Canal 7 × 7, the mayor of Pokrovsk, Viktor Konstantinov, said the mourning after a plane carrying bodies of the soldiers killed in Ukraine landed in the city. He did not specify how many coffins were brought.
The Russian propagandists qualified Konstantinov's decision as “a harsh political gesture”, given the moment when it was taken, even on the birthday of the Kremlin leader.
Major military losses for Russia since the outbreak of war
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian armed forces, Russia would have lost 1,020 soldiers in the last 24 hours.
Between February 24, 2022-7 October 2025, Russia's total losses, dead and injured, would amount to about one million soldiers, according to the same sources.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said on August 12 that the losses of Russia in the war are three times higher than those of the Ukrainian defense forces.
On September 16, the chief commander of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Sîrski, claimed that the Ukrainian forces have eliminated over 300,000 Russian soldiers since the beginning of 2025.
On October 6, the project “I want to live” (led by the Ukrainian coordination center for the treatment of prisoners of war) reported that, on average, seven Russian brigades are destroyed monthly in the war against Ukraine.
