Shein opens the first stores in France. 200 jobs will be built

The Asian giant of the fast fashion industry has so far sold its products online or organized the so -called Pop-up Store, i.e. temporary stores in selected locations. Now, however, the Chinese tycoon will have the first stationary store.

Shein explained the BBC that the “influential global fashion market” in France was a “natural choice” as a place for testing physical stores by the company. The fashion brand has become best known for its discounted and fashionable clothes, but has been criticized about its negative environmental impact and working conditions.
The company has previously opened temporary pop-up stores in cities such as Madrid and Paris, but never conducted a permanent physical store. Shein will first open stores in department stores in Paris, and then in five other cities: Dijon, Reims, Grenoble, Angers and Limoges.
Shein chooses France for its first permanent stores
As BBC explains, new points of sale are opened as part of a partnership with the Societe des Grands Magasins (SGM) commercial property group. The French company manages the BHV Marais and Galeries Lafayette department stores, in which there will be sales points, which Shein calls “shop-in-shop”.
Shops will create about 200 jobs in France, said Shein in a statement, adding that the cooperation was aimed at reviving city centers and department stores in the country.
“When choosing France as a place to test physical retail sales, Shein wants to benefit French clients and a wider retail sector,” said the company in a statement.

The decision of the Asian Fast Fashion Giant appeared after the French Senate adopted the act regulating the Fast-Fashion industry in June by sanctioning companies such as Shein and competitive to this, and prohibiting their advertising.
Shein, which sends goods to over 150 countries, operated mainly online through his website and application.
Shein, founded in China in 2008 and based in Singapore, was criticized due to the production of fast-fascion goods. The business model quickly produces cheap clothes based on the latest styles, but attracts criticism for impact on the environment.
