The big prize from Singapore this weekend (October 3-5) has been officially declared “heat danger”, which means that cars must be equipped with cooling devices. It is for the first time this rule is applied in Formula 1.
The director of the Asian race, Rui Marques, said there is a danger of heat, because it is stipulated that the temperature will exceed 31 degrees Celsius during the race weekend. The temperature provided on the F1 site for Saturday is 32 ° C, to increase to 33 ° C on Sunday.
“In view of the forecast … which stipulates that the heat index will exceed 31.0 ° C at a time during the race within this stage, the danger is declared”, The body of motor sports in a statement said on Thursday.
According to the new rules for 2025, the driving body FIA has introduced cooling vests for pilots, which pump liquid through a network of vest tubes, notes AP.
Pilots are not obliged to use the system, but they cannot reduce the weight of the car by giving up.
Even the pilots who do not wear the vest must have a cooling equipment in the car, along with ballast to compensate for the weight of the vest.
The Fia started working on the cooling technology for pilots after, at the big Qatar award in 2023, they needed medical care after they felt bad because of the heat.
The news will become mandatory under high temperature conditions starting next season.
Carlos Sainz: “I think it is fair, I hope to work at least an hour”
“Honestly I think it is correct, I think only the heat is not too bad for us“, Said pilot Williams Carlos Sainz reporters, quoted by Reuters.
“Even the humidity itself is not so bad at all, but when the temperature is 28-30 degrees and is wet, then it reaches the levels of Singapore and becomes hard“He added.
Sainz said that the vest used by his team was still under development and that he is unlikely to withstand the entire two -hour race.
“I think teams manage to make him work better and better every time we use it. I hope now the whole system will work at least one hour“He said.

“I drove 10 times in Singapore. If it breaks down or does not work, I don't worry. I will participate in the race and I will go out fresh as they always do. But if it works, the better, because then you suffer something less”, The Spaniard pointed out.
Sainz comes after his first podium of the season in Azerbaijan, but has low expectations for similar success in Singapore, due to the configuration of his car.
Carlos Sainz and the methods of combating heat: “I keep them for me”
Winner at Singapore for Ferrari in 2023, Sainz said he was one of the first to adopt the ice baths to lower their body temperature before getting in the car at hot weather.
“I think I started this eight to ten years ago, some were doing it, others said they didn't need it“He said.”Now they do it all”.
The 31 -year -old Spanish said he has other ways to combat heat, but he is not ready to reveal them. “I keep them secrets,” he said laughing.
“Otherwise, they will become like ice baths, everyone will use them and you will have no advantage in terms of performance. So I try to keep them for me”.
Singapore is an extremely difficult race for F1 pilots due to the heat and humidity on the street circuit, even if the race takes place at night. In the past, F1 pilots have said that the heat in Singapore makes the drinking water in the cars, some comparing it to the hot tea.
