The Minister of National Defense, Ionuț Mosteanu, met on Tuesday, in Warsaw, with the special US emissary for Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg, MAPN announced in a press release. The Romanian official said that the American commitment in Europe is “essential” for the stability in front of Russia and has reaffirmed that Romania will continue to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, including through security guarantees.
According to the quoted source, in the discussion with Kellogg the Romanian official stressed that “the US commitment to Europe remains essential for maintaining stability in the face of the threats generated by the Russian Federation.” Mosteanu added that “the support for Ukraine remains a strategic commitment to Romania, for the benefit of the security of the whole of Europe.”
The relevant minister also stated that Romania “is determined to contribute to the outline of solid security guarantees for Kiev, to be implemented by close cooperation between Europe and the United States.”
Regarding the eastern neighborhood, Moșteanu welcomed the result of the recent parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova, considering it a clear confirmation of the European orientation of Chisinau.
The minister has shown that “the stability of Ukraine and that of the Republic of Moldova are interdependent and directly contribute to regional security, especially in the strategic area of the Black Sea.”
At the same time, Mosteanu insisted that “the Black Sea must remain on the Allied agenda, being an area of major interest for both NATO and the European Union.”
He added: “The consolidation of the allied presence in the region, by military, political and economic means, is essential for the discouragement of any aggression. Transatlantic coordination is important to discourage Russian aggression.”
“At the end, both officials have reconfirmed the common interest in deepening the defense dialogue and for maintaining a unitary approach in support given to the vulnerable partners in the eastern neighborhood,” the quoted press release states.
