The Central Port of Communication increased the maximum operating speed on the designed “Y” Warsaw – Łódź – Poznań/Wrocław line from 250 km/h to 350 km/h. Thanks to this, the trip from Warsaw to Wrocław will be shortened to 1 hour. 36 min, and to Poznań up to 1 hour 38 min – the company said on Tuesday.

CPK explained that the decision allows the full use of technical parameters of the line designed from the beginning with the highest speeds in mind. Simulations have shown that with a minimum number of stops, the travel time on the Warsaw-Wrocław route will be about 40 minutes shorter compared to the 250 km/h variant.
According to CPK, trains at speeds above 300 km/h are crucial for creating a competitive and faster transport offer. In addition, the “Y” line will also support slower trains, including Aeroexpress and Regiooexpress, running at speeds up to 200 km/h to meet the needs of passengers from medium -sized cities.
CPK presented calculations based on simulations that showed that the difference during travel between a maximum speed of 350 km/ha 250 km/h depends on the route and the number of stops. The infrastructure of the designed “Y” Warsaw – CPK – Łódź – Poznań/Wrocław line is consistently adapted to a speed of 350 km/h, and its use in just 70 percent. (i.e. up to 250 km/h) would be artificial lowering parameters.

The company said that the route Warsaw – Poznań the fastest train, riding at a maximum speed of 350 km/h, would beat in 1 hour. and 38 min. This variant assumes only two stops: at Warszawa Zachodnia and Łódź Fabryczna stations. The train is able to reach speeds above 300 km/h at 81 percent. route length.
A slower train, at a maximum speed of 250 km/h, would cover the Warsaw – Poznań route in 2 hours. and 19 min. assuming stops in West Warsaw, at the CPK airport, Łódź, Sieradz and Kalisz. The difference is therefore 41 minutes in favor of a faster train. In turn, the hypothetical variant assuming driving at a maximum speed of 250 km/HIZ with a minimum number of stops assumes that if the train stopped only in Łódź (like the fastest variant), the difference when traveling in relation to the 350 km/h train would be 15 minutes.
According to CPK, the simulation shows that the route Warsaw – Wrocław the fastest train (350 km/h) would beat in 1 hour. and 36 min.at stops only at the Warsaw West and Łódź Fabryczna stations. Trains will be able to reach speeds above 300 km/h at 71 percent. this route. A slower train (250 km/h) route with stops in West Warsaw, at the CPK airport, Łódź, Sieradz and Kępno would drive in 2 hours. and 19 min. In this scenario, the difference is over 40 minutes in favor of a train going to 350 km/h.
At the same time, CPK points out that the hypothetical variant at a maximum speed of up to 250 km/h with a minimum number of stops, assuming a stopping of the composition only at Warsaw West and Łódź Fabryczna stations, this is a difference in time compared to the 350 km/h train would be 15 minutes.
CPK at the same time emphasizes that The passenger transport model shows that about 80 percent Travelers on the “Y” line will travel between the largest cities (Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań, Wrocław)which is why the offer of the fastest connections is directed to them. It has been added that the “Y” line is to be used also by slower warehouses, traveling at a speed of 200 to 300 km/h to handle passengers from smaller cities, such as Sieradz or Kalisz.
The “Y” line with a length of 480 km, with branches to Poznań and Wrocław, was defined as the CPK investment priority.

As part of the CPK program, among others, Central airport, located between Warsaw and Łódź, and high speed rail system. The new airport is to be adapted initially to service 34 million passengers per year and designed in such a way that in the long term it can be flexibly expanded, in accordance with the needs and forecasts of market development.
According to the adopted schedule, the construction of the CPK airport in the communes of Baranów, Wiskity and Teresin is to start in 2026. In 2031, the airport is to obtain the necessary certifications, and in 2032, it is to be commissioned with the first episode of KDP in Poland: Warsaw – CPK – Łódź. The estimated investment cost by 2032 is PLN 131.7 billion. (PAP)
