Saturn disappears from Europe. The known network will be replaced by Media Markt

According to the German daily Handelsblatt, the number of Saturn stores in Germany fell until September 2024 to 87, while MediaMarkt increased its presence to over 300 locations.
This change is a continuation of the extensive Ceconomy strategy, which assumes the “closer connection” of both brands throughout Europe. In Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Saturn has already been completely replaced by MediaMarkt.
For customers, the differences between the two networks were almost imperceptible. Saturn and MediaMarkt offered the same assortment, identical promotions and a common marketing policy. Even loyalty programs have been integrated, allowing the collection and use of points in both networks.
Will Saturn disappear for good?
Although the number of Saturn stores in Germany is systematically decreasing, the brand will not be completely withdrawn from the market. According to “Handelsblatt”, Saturn will still be part of the Ceconomy corporate strategy, although the details of its future role have not yet been revealed.
Saturn in Poland
Polish customers remember the Saturn brand well, which has been functioning on our market for years. However, in 2018 the network met a similar fate – all Saturn stores were transformed into MediaMarkt.
The Ceconomy decision is part of a broader trend of brand consolidation on the consumer electronics market, where the operational efficiency and recognition of one strong brand are becoming a key element of business strategy.
