President Nicușor Dan spoke about the security risks Romania faces and the way the state is preparing to respond to hybrid challenges. Russia remains “our enemy and Europe,” he said, but does not have the ability to attack NATO now. Internet users reacted immediately.

Instead, Romania is facing another type of danger: drones, computer attacks and misinformation campaigns. The president said that approximately 80,000 cyber attacks on the state institutions were registered during the election period. Romania has a solid technical defense, but the pressure is constant.
“We are, technologically, one step behind Russia,” Nicușor Dan acknowledged, in an interview for Digi24.
Worse than computer attacks is the information war. A false narrative can reach hundreds of thousands of people in two hours, and a late reaction becomes useless. All these lessons will be included in a new national security strategy. The document will be subject to a public debate and will bring clear rules for air defense, cyber resilience and quick response to misinformation.
