The statements of US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, September 23, made in the UN in the UN General Assembly margin, according to which Ukraine is likely to regain all the territories occupied by the Moscow army, have triggered a wave of critics from Russian officials and state propagandists, writes The Kyiv.
After a meeting with the Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, Trump wrote a message in the online environment in which he claimed that “Ukraine, with the support of EU, is able to fight and regain the entire territory”.
“Russia has been struggling without purpose for three and a half years,” he wrote. “This does not differentiate Russia (from other countries, no); in fact, it makes it look like a” paper tiger “,” added the White House leader.
These statements marked a radical change in Trump's position, coming just one month after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Alaska summit and offered to mediate a peace agreement along the current front line.
Trump lives in a “parallel” reality, according to Medvedev
Russian officials have tried to minimize Trump's statements, ironizing the US leader at the same time.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov rejected the remark about the “paper tiger”, adding that Trump's position change came from his discussions with Zelenski and that she was determined by “commercial interests”.
“Russia is by no means a tiger. After all, Russia is more often associated with a bear. There is no” paper “, and Russia is a true bear,” said Peskov.
The Kremlin responds to Trump after ironizing the Russian army, signaling a major vision change on Ukraine
Former Russian president Dmitri Medvedev, known for his provocative outings and has already had a public dispute with Trump, said the American leader “has reached a parallel reality.”
“After meeting with the clowns in Kiev and Paris, he published a lively message. In the new reality, everything is different. Kiev wins, Russia is torn,” said Medvedev.
Medvedev, who is currently the Vice -President of the Russian Security Council, added that Trump will “return” from that “parallel reality” because “he always returns” and could even ask Ukraine “signing a capitulation.”
“A random phrase generator”
Russian parliamentarian Oleg Matveychev has listed Trump's words as meaningless. “He is a random numbers generator, a random phrase generator. And it is said that Trump declares exactly what the last person in his office told him,” the Russian legislator said.
“Do you really think it will say something important? Or will it change something? Nothing depends on it, nothing will change,” Matveychev added.
Leonid Sluțki, the chairman of the Russian Parliament Commission, also criticized Trump's position, suggesting that the statements of the White House leader are full of contradictions.
“Trump has made a series of contradictory statements about the lack of economic development of Russia and the alleged uselessness of the war,” he said. “This is an extremely dangerous misconception.”
Sluțki noted that Trump has already changed his position several times.
Soloviov claims that Europeans actually oppose Trump
Speaking on the Russian state television, journalist Vladimir Soloviov, considered the main propagandist of the Kremlin, used his show to attack Trump's statements, accusing Kiev and his allies of deceiving the US President.
Soloviov said Zelenski aligns with European leaders, who said “opposed to the US president”, using homophobic insults to offend EU officials.
“There is the position of the Russian state, which is based on the decisions of the UN Security Council. And then there are these hysterical (European, no) reactions against Donald Trump,” said Soloviov.
The unusually harsh reactions from Moscow show that Trump's statements have reached a sensitive point, notes the Kiev publication.
Russian officials tend to be cautious in public statements due to the controlled political environment, which requires them to avoid mistakes that could result in consequences.
The reaction of the US President came after Moscow gave a series of signals that rejected his efforts to reach a peace agreement, including rejecting the conclusion of an armistice and the refusal to participate in substantial negotiations.
Trump recently promised to facilitate, following a summit at the White House with Zelenski and European leaders, a direct meeting between the Ukrainian President and Vladimir Putin.
These efforts failed quickly when Putin asked Zelenski to come to Moscow, a proposal that Kiev rejected as “impossible”, while Ukraine remained under the attacks of Russian missiles.
Zelenski reiterated his willingness to meet with Putin only on a neutral land, an offer that Moscow has constantly rejected.
