The Ministry of Internal Affairs opposed the restriction of the use of right -hand drive cars

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs is categorically against any restrictions in the operation of right-hand drive cars. No draft legal acts in this area are currently being developed and is not planned, the official representative of the Ministry Irina Volk said.
In connection with the advent of reports on the proposals in the media to introduce additional encumbrances – utilization fee, import restriction, phased replacement – vehicles with the right location of the steering in the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that such initiatives were not nominated or supported.
In 2024, the proportion of the number of those killed in accidents involving right -hand drive vehicles amounted to about 12 % of the total number of those who died in an accident. Studying the possibilities of ensuring safety during the operation of right -hand drive vehicles is provided for in the project of a new strategy for improving road safety. At the same time, it is planned to evaluate the risks due, for example, by the features of the location of the control mechanisms and the settings of external lighting devices in such vehicles.
It is necessary to develop specific measures, including the conduct of appropriate educational work with drivers and improving the quality of their training. These measures are aimed at improving safety in the management of right -hand drive, as well as the development of mechanisms for the mutual adaptation of such cars and road infrastructure. There is no talk of any prohibitions in this area in the project.
