A report broadcast by propagandist Vladimir Soloviov has revealed, involuntarily, the location of the “Center for Advanced Technologies”, I also know as “Rubicon”.
According to an investigation by Radio Svoboda, the Russian service of RFE/RL, which compared the images from Soloviov's show with publicly available video materials, the base is in the “Patriot” park near Moscow, notes The Moscow Times.
The details were betrayed by a video fragment where the place was blurred too little: a light panel and a visible toilet plate at the entrance, along with other decorative elements.
All these allowed the exact identification of the filming place – the exhibition center in the park, the Pavilions C and D. Radio Svoboda specifies that it used three video sources to locate the area in which it was filmed: own materials of the center, publications of the Russian Ministry of Defense and Soloviov's report.
Created in the summer of 2024, “Rubicon” has the role of developing and acquiring unanswered air vehicles systems, implementing tactics for the use of drones on the front and preparing operators.
In October 2024, his involvement in military operations was officially announced. The structure is described as a “vertical” one, which brings together research, testing, training and units sent on the front line – being credited with a major role in the Russian operations in the Kursk region and in the advances in Donbas, writes Radio Svoboda.
“The best technological unit in Russia”
Ukrainian and international military experts unanimously describe the “Rubicon” Center as one of the most effective initiatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the field of drones.
The military analyst Rob Lee claims that “Rubicon” has at least seven detachments, each with 130-150 soldiers. Thus, the Center fulfills for Kremlin a strategic mission: the systematic integration of drones into the war against Ukraine.
Rubicon has become “the best technological unit in Russia,” says Maria Berlinska, head of the Ukrainian support center for air recognition, a non -governmental organization assisting the army.
Officially, the location of the “rubicon” remains secret, and the state press presents it as a “mysterious center”, without giving details.
In fact, the training for drone operators take place in the same pavilions where, in parallel, fairs open to the public, such as the exhibition “Moprimăvara 2025”.
This huge complex in the suburb of the Russian capital, which has hosted important military exhibitions in the past, was hit by a Ukrainian drone, in an attack launched on May 22.
