Eager to offer something back to the sport he loves, the great Rafael Nadal decided to build his own academy in his hometown, Manacor, in Mallorca. The impressive complex officially opened its doors in October 2016.

The technical staff is composed of Rafa Nadal, winner of 22 Grand Slam titles, his former coach and uncle, Toni Nadal, and former world leader Carlos Moya, the current technical director.

With a total of 45 lands (23 on the hard surface and 22 on the slag), the complex in Manacor is one of the largest in the world and offers annual tennis programs for children between the ages of 12 and 18.

The center of the Spaniard also has 15 paddles, a 7 against 7 football field, a beach volleyball, a multisport land and two 25 -meter swimming pools (one indoor and one outer).

According to the latest brochure, 30 coaches work at the Academy, including Pedro Clar, Anabel Medina, Joan Bosch, Mark Krauss, Nacho Gonzalez and Alex Praderes. The fitness center is run by Domingo Rossello and has 10 coaches, 6 physiotherapists, 2 doctors, 2 nutritionists and 4 psychologists.

Perhaps a key aspect by which the Rafael Nadal Academy differs from other complexes is that RNA athletes can combine tennis workouts with academic studies at Rafael Nadal (RNS) International School, which offers personalized educational programs, accredited by the Spanish system, as well as by the British and American organizations, including an internation.

The motto of the Academy is: “We form tennis players, students and people,” notes Tennis365.com.

What conditions should those who want to continue their career in tennis and RNA and RNS are to meet

“For us, human training is just as important as the sporting one, which is why our goal is that each player can put values such as effort, humility, tolerance, patience, respect, discipline and commitment.

For this reason, all the players from the Academy participate in a daily course that we called “building a champion”, in which, every day of the week, they are practically taught a special tennis matter, in which values, psychology, nutrition and physical training play a very important role, “said Rafa.

Those who want to continue their career in tennis and RNA and RNS studies must have a level of intermediate-advised game and have to demonstrate this. Candidates must either participate in a test in person or send a video recording from a real match.

Once these tests are passed, you can start planning the future in the hand, with the option of short-term and annual programs (September-June). Short -term programs include weekly time, as well as summer camps, high performance camps and junior holiday camps.

A former Academy coach revealed the costs of programs

Earlier this year, one of the former coaches at the Rafa Nadal Academy, Francesco Mendo, told Indietenis.com that an annual RNA and RNS program costs approximately $ 60,000 (50,654 euros), while weekly programs start at $ 2,000 (1,688 euros).

“To understand, the price seems very high for most people, whether it is the annual or weekly program, but I think it is really worth it,” said Mendo.

Then he added: “Because it is not just tennis, but to give the children a complete experience and education, at 360 degrees. So, if you pay the annual price, you have the school included, and the classes do not have more than 10-15 people.”

“You have daily tennis lessons with professionals from all over the world. Professionals with remarkable and experienced leadership, from the main coaches of the academy. Consider that you also pay for fitness training and all meals. You are staying at the academy. And someone constantly supervises the player over the year.

Children will, of course, have free time. But they are constantly monitored for safety, protocols, training and education. The Academy makes life easier for players, so that it can focus on tennis, ”concluded the 34 -year -old Italian.

What have been the fruits of the Academy so far?

After nine years of activity, the Academy produced five Grand Slam champions. The most sound names are Alexandra Eala (Filipino for 20 years) and Ivan Ivanov (16 -year -old Bulgarian).
