Charles Leclerc could equal Michael Schumacher's record for most consecutive poles on a single Formula 1 race with the Ferrari team, if he will win Saturday's qualifications for the Azerbaijan Grand Prize.
For Monegasc, this would be the fifth consecutive pole position on the banks of the Caspian Sea, where it is undefeated in qualifications of 2021. In fact,
Charles Leclerc could equal Michael Schumacher's record at Azerbaijan's big prize
Leclerc has already won five consecutive qualifications in Baku, because in the 2023 season in Azerbaijan there was also a sprint race, for which there was a separate qualifications session, won by Monegasc. For statistics, however, only the qualifications for the main races are taken into account, according to Sportal.bg.
With Ferrari, Schumacher won five consecutive poles in two races: the Grand Prize of Japan and the Grand Prize of Spain. In Suzuka, the German constantly won the qualifications between 1998 and 2002, and in Barcelona his series continued between 2000 and 2004.
Otherwise, the absolute record for most consecutive poles in a single race belongs to Ayrton Senna, who between 1985 and 1991 won seven consecutive poles for the Grand State of San Marino at “Imola” with Lotus and McLaren. In second place is Lewis Hamilton, with six consecutive poles for the Australian Grand Prize between 2014 and 2019 with Mercedes.
