Israel has launched its offensive to occupy the city of Gaza and intensely bombed the enclave on Monday night by Tuesday, causing destruction. Thousands of Palestinians left the city overnight, in the middle of waves of air attacks, according to Time of Israel and Axios.

“Gaza burns,” said the Israeli Minister of Defense on Tuesday morning, Israel Katz, in an X post.

“We will not give in and we will not be beaten until the mission is accomplished,” Katz added. He refers to the order given by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month: to capture the city of Gaza, “Bastion of the Hama militant group”.

The offensive started a few hours after the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Rubio supported Israel's movement in the devastated territory.

“We must remember who we are dealing with here-that is, with a group of people who have dedicated their lives to violence and barbarism,” Rubio said in a press conference with Netanyahu. “And when you face this hard reality, no matter how much we want a peaceful, diplomatic way to end it-and we will continue to explore and dedicate ourselves to this-we must be prepared for the possibility that this will not happen,” Rubio said.

Thousands of people evacuated

Over 350,000 Palestinians have so far evacuated the city of Gaza to other areas of the strip, according to EDF estimates Monday night. It is estimated that another thousands left the city overnight, in the middle of the air attacks, according to a defense source, quoted by Time of Israel.

A witness reported for the same publication that bombings caused destruction.

“The city of Gaza is bombarded intense and endlessly, and the danger continues to grow,” said witness Ahmed Ghazal. He said that the homes were destroyed and the inhabitants are caught under the rubble. “We hear their screams,” says the inhabitant of Gaza, 25 years old.

Mahmud Bassal, spokesman for the Civil Defense Agency in Gaza led by Hamas, told AFP that “the bombings continue intensely in the city of Gaza, and the number of dead and wounded continues to increase.”

Images circulating on social networks show families from Gaza who spent the night on the streets of fear that their homes should not be destroyed by bombing.
