Banks warn Russians about a new scheme of fraud with the participation of “school psychologists”

VTB experts revealed a new scheme of fraud in which attackers are represented by school psychologists. They send the Russians links to fake public services sites, reporting that their child allegedly did not pass the mandatory testing.

The script ends with “remote checks” and the transfer of money and values ​​for the false Curler.

During the call, scammers offer to retake a test on the link that leads to a phishing site. This allows them to access personal data, and sometimes to bank accounts. Then they inform their “victims” about the leakage of data or the threat of criminal prosecution for actions allegedly committed on their behalf. Attackers intimidate both children and their parents, demanding to turn on the video and arrange a “test” of the house, collect valuable things and money to transfer to the courier.

“Fraudsters began to use more complex methods, including psychological pressure. It should always be remembered that ordinary citizens will never call representatives of the Central Bank or Finmonitoring. It is necessary to critically treat any statements by unknown persons on the phone, act with a cold head, and it is better to just get a pipe. It is important to convey these same safety rules to children. It is important that they in any incomprehensible situation before doing something, turn to adults for advice, ”said Dmitry Revyakin, VTB Vice-President, Head of the Department of Corporate Interest Protection of the Department for Safety.

In the summer, during the entrance exams, scammers also submitted school psychologists and collected personal data and details of adults and children for the “student characterization”. The purpose of such calls is to access the personal offices of state portals, banks or use the received data in social engineering schemes (calls from the bank with a request to “confirm the operation”).

You can check the link to the phishing, as well as inform the scammer’s number on the bank’s website in the Safety section or in chat bots in VKontakte and Max messengers. You can call the bank by number 1000 – it is indicated on each VTB banking card. Calls from the bank from this number are also safe – scammers will not be able to call it.
