Elina Avanesyan: “It seems like everything lasted more than usual to heal”
I wanted to take a moment to share something more personal with you, because the last few months have been very challenging for me. In March I was diagnosed with mononucleosis. At first I did not fully realize how much it would affect me, but soon I started to feel exhausted all the time, without energy, and even the simplest workouts have become very difficult..
This was particularly difficult to accept, because the first two months of the season went so well. I was competing at a high level, I felt in excellent form and I really enjoyed tennis. To move from this to feeling so weak and unable to perform was incredibly frustrating.
Then, in Miami, I started to have significant pain in the wrist, which lasted a long time until they were healing. Just when I thought I came back, I had another problem, with shoulder pain, and since then it has been a thing after another. These physical problems were very difficult to manage, especially because my body did not recover completely after the disease. It seems that everything lasted more than usual to heal, which makes the process even more difficult.
I worked closely with my team every day, doing my best to heal, regain my strength and prepare to compete again at 100%. But the truth is that this period tested me in ways I didn't expect. There were moments of frustration and even doubt, but I also learned a lot about patience, resilience and how much I really love this sport.
I can play matches again was an important step, but competing without feeling in shape on the field is very difficult. Above all, I miss that I can fight at the highest level and enjoy the game as I know. This is why I keep myself motivated every day to go through this process.
Thank you very much to all those who continue to support me through the ups and downs of this period. Your warm messages and encouragement means more to me than I can express in words. They give me strength in difficult days and remember why you continue to fight.
I think this is just a stage, and I can hardly wait to come back on the ground, to compete without pain, healthy and stronger than ever
