A new Minister of Albania, responsible for managing public procurement, will be immune to any form of corruption. This is because Diella, as it is called, is a muzzle generated by artificial intelligence, writes Reuters.

According to Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, Diella will manage and assign all the public auctions by which the Government contracts private companies for various projects.

“Diella is the first member of the cabinet that is not physically present, but is created virtually, by AI,” said Rama during a speech to present his new government. This will help Albania to become “a country where public auctions are 100% lacking in corruption.”

The award of such contracts has long been a source of corruption scandals in Albania, a Balkan country that experts say is used to wash money from drug and weapons worldwide. This image has complicated the process of accession of Albania to the European Union, which Rama wants to complete by 2030, but which political analysts consider an ambitious target.

The government did not provide details about what kind of human supervision could exist on Diella or the risk of someone manipulating the artificial intelligence muzzle.

Diella was initially launched earlier this year as a virtual assistant based on the E-Albania platform, helping citizens and companies to obtain various documents. Dressed in a traditional Albanian costume, she offers assistance through voice commands and issues documents with electronic stamps, reducing bureaucratic delays.
