Bethany Mulcahy-Stephenson, a veterinarian, told Guardian that she and her husband, Adam, 39, found the mother cat who needed an operation during a trip in September 2023.

They returned to May and discovered that the cat, which they called Abba, had given birth to a series of kittens, two of whom had eye infections, and one was blind.

When the local animal rescue organization said it could only receive cats temporarily, Bethany and Adam decided to adopt sick animals.

“It was a decision of life and death”Bethany told Dailymail.com.

After treating cats, the couple planned to take them by plane to Paris, leading from the UK, Barrowford, Lancashire, to take them from Calais.

But when they arrived at Eurotunel, they were terrified to receive an SMS from their Savior Contact from Greece, who told them: “The airline has lost three of the kittens.”

“I didn't know what was going on. I didn't even know where they were, if they left Greece, if they were in France or if they were left on the track.”

The cats had arrived in France, but they had not been downloaded. Bethany said they were “Somehow forgotten in the hold or have not been seen” And that they remained on the plane while it was turning to Thessaloniki in northern Greece.

Bethany was afraid that cats would be dead or would never be found again. Two days passed until they learned what fate they had, when the airline agreed to send the cats back through Athens, in the cab and with an attendant.

“They were absolutely traumatized“She said, adding that they had to be urgently taken to a veterinarian.

The couple says he has not yet received an adequate explanation or apology from Aegean Airlines.

The company stated that cats “They were not lost at any time.”

A statement by the airline says: “Upon arrival of the flight to Paris, they were not landed immediately for operational reasons. As soon as this was identified, a coordinated response has been activated promptly between all the stations involved and our client services department, to protect their care and security until they reunite with their guardians. The cats continued their journey on the same day under the direct care of the Aegean crew, which provided them food and water during the flight, ensuring constant supervision. The same evening, the cats were safely gathered with their tutors in Paris. ”
