Moscow has leaned on a new way to attract Ukrainian civilians on its side, according to the Ukrainian police, The Kyiv Independent reports.
A drone of the Russians threw butterflies in the form of 100-gray banknotes in the city of Cernihiv, in the northeast of the country, urging residents to collaborate with Russian forces, the Local Police Department said on Saturday.
According to the quoted source, the butterflies were offered money in exchange for the coordinates to help Russia aim for Ukrainian forces.
The Regional Police Department received a complaint about this unusual case from one of the districts of the Cernihiv city on Saturday morning.
“The police warn the citizens about the criminal liability for the dissemination of information on the location and movements of the Ukrainian armed forces!”, The police statement said.
Cernihiv, which is about 80 kilometers from the border with Russia, suffered a series of deadly attacks during the large -scale war.
Since the beginning of the invasion, Russia has tried to bribe or blackmail Ukrainian citizens to cause them to collaborate, convincing them to spy on Kiev forces or commit sabotage and fire.
Russian intelligence services have focused their efforts to recruit on adolescents, contacting them through messaging services and offering them money in exchange for betraying their country.
