Polish citizen suspected of espionage, detained in Belarus: secret military documents found on him

Belarus counter-information agents detained a Polish citizen suspected of espionage because he had documents related to future Belarus-Ruse military exercises, the state press reported on Thursday.

Belarus-1 television reported that the state security service agents, still known as the Soviet KGB era, detained the man in the city of Lepel, east of the Minsk capital. A Belarus citizen was also detained.

President Belarus Aleksandr Lukaşenko is one of the closest allies of Kremlin Vladimir Putin and allowed Moscow to use his country's territory for the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, although he said that Belaruşi military will not participate in it, writes News.

The Belta News Agency said that the Polish suspect had a copy of a document describing the Zapad-25 exercises that were to take place this month. He also had on his money belaruşi and foreigners and a SIM card for the mobile phone recorded on the behalf of someone else.

Russia has moved tactical nuclear weapons from its own borders to Belarus.
