Anca Todoni is in quarters of final at the WTA 125 tournament at Montreux

Anca Todoni (20 years, 112 WTA) qualified on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Montreux (Switzerland), after defeating Daria Astakhova (23 years, 657 WTA) with 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Anca Todoni lost in the first round of qualifications at the US Open, and this week evolves on the slag in the WTA 125 tournament in Montreux, where she won two victories.

The Romanian defeated Sada Nahimana (24 years, 220 WTA) in Burundi with 6-0, 6-3, and on Thursday he qualified in the quarterfinals, after passing the Russian Daria Astakhova with 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, in a match stretched for two hours and fourteen minutes.

For a place in the semifinals, Todoni will meet Latona Darja Semenista (22, 115 WTA). The two have been confronted three times so far, all the matches being in the WTA 125 circuit. The Latvian was imposed in Bucharest in 2023 and in Montreux in 2024, and the Romanian won in Santa Cruz in 2024.

Anca Todoni is in the semifinals and doubles, where she pairs with the Dutch Arantxa Rus and where she will play against the pair made up of Anouk Koevermans / Valentina Ryser (Netherlands / Switzerland).

WTA 125 tournaments are a good alternative when needed, when a player has quickly lost in a big tour or simply a correct option to gather points. The female circuit has included in 2012 under the title of Challenger series, a name similar to the ATP.

Anca Todoni played this year in two WTA 125 tournaments, in Bari and Antalya, she managed to win both trophies. The Romanian has two other WTA 125 trophies, Santa Cruz and Open delle Puglie, won in 2024.
