The man visiting the exhibition of works of the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelana at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto ate part of a work of art presenting a banana attached to the wall.

According to CMTV Portuguese television on Monday, the museum's protection has already stopped a man who broke off a wall glued with a banana tape, destroying the installation entitled “Comedian”.
The station reminded that earlier, in July at the Center for Contemporary Art of the Pompidou Center in Metz, in the northeast of France, a similar event occurred.

According to the Portuguese daily “Publico” in both Metz and in Porto the “Comedian” installation was destroyed by the same man. “A citizen of the Netherlands has already admitted to both of these acts,” said the Lisbon daily.
In both cases, as the witnesses of the incident testified, the exhibition's guest broke the banana from the wall, peeled it and ate it. When asked about the motives of his behavior, he was to say that “he was surprised by the high price of this work of art.”
In November last year “Comedian” was sold to a collector during auction in New York for $ 6.2 million.
The management of the Serralves Museum in Porto reported that, according to the installation agreement, “Comedian”, which is part of this work, Banana can be replaced at any time to others, which also happened after the visitor broke the fruit.
