“Impossible”. Red Cross Warning on the million people in Gaza

The Red Cross has transmitted that a massive evacuation of the population in the city of Gaza is “impossible”, the warning coming in the context in which Israel intensifies on this great urban agglomeration for a major offensive against the Palestinian Islamist Movement, AFP reports.

While the Gaza strip is devastated by the nearly 23 months of war, the first aid organization Defense reported 66 dead on Saturday after several Israeli attacks on the Palestinian territory, especially in the city of Gaza.

Despite the increasing pressures, both from abroad and from Israel, to put an end to the war, the Israeli government emphasizes that it wants to continue the offensive, and the army is preparing for a generalized assault on the city of Gaza. The army claims that the evacuation of urban agglomeration is “inevitable”.

The evacuation of a million people, “impossible”

“It is impossible for the mass evacuation of the city of Gaza to be carried out in safe and dignity under the current conditions,” said the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (CICR), Mirjana Spoljaric.

Thousands of inhabitants have already fled from the city in the north of the territory. According to the UN, almost one million people live in the Gaza governor, which includes its city and its surroundings.

With the offensive on the city of Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right allies say they want to annihilate the Hamas, whose unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 has triggered the war, and bring back to the rapites that are still that day.

In Israel, those who oppose the planned offensive in the city of Gaza are afraid that it will cost the lives of several soldiers and endanger the safety of the defeated hostages on October 7 and who are still alive.

Thousands of people showed on Saturday night at Tel Aviv and in other cities to request the issuance of hostages and the cessation of the war.

“Netanyahu, if Matan returns to a coffin (…), I will personally make sure that you will be accused of murder,” said = shortly before the protest, the leader of the Families of the Homboards, Einav Zangauker, referring to his son, abducted on October 7th.

The Israeli military reprisals caused at least 63,371 dead in the Gaza strip, most civilians, according to the figures of the Ministry of Health of Gaza, under the authority of Hamas. The ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the UN, does not specify the number of killed combatants.
