The deposit system will affect prices. From October, you may be surprised in the store


As the Ministry of Climate and the Environment explains, the deposit system is a mechanism that promotes recycling and the use of packaging again. IN Poland will start operating from October 2025. Then drinks will appear in the stores in packaging covered by the system, i.e. those on which there will be a clear deposit sign with its amount.

For each plastic bottle or can marked with a symbol, the customer will receive 50 groszy, while for a glass bottle of reusable – PLN 1. Here are the detailed rules:
- Plastic bottles with a capacity of up to 3 liters
With the return of a plastic bottle covered by the deposit system, i.e. with the sign of the deposit system, you will receive 50 gr.
- Metal cans with a capacity of up to 1 liter
With a reimbursement of the can covered with the deposit system, you will receive 50 groszy.
- Multiple -use glass bottles with a capacity of up to 1.5 liters
With a refund of a glass bottle you will receive PLN 1.
The food portal points out that The deposit will be added to the drink price only at the checkout, so the final price will be higher than the one on the shelf.
“In accordance with the adopted rules, on the price label The price of a product without deposit should be given on the shelf. However, some stores are also planned to place additional information about the amount of deposit, e.g. in the form of the “+ 0.50 PLN deposit”. The deposit itself will be added at the cash register, both in traditional and self -service and will be listed on the receipt in the non -fiscal part. The deposit system works in a non -marked model, which means that when returning the packaging it will not be required to present proof of purchaseten
Where to recover the deposit?
As the ministry calculates, packaging points with a deposit sign will be:
- All stores over 200 sq m, which offer drinks in packaging covered by the deposit system;
- Stores below 200 sq m, in which drinks in multiple -use glass bottles will be sold (currently on the market, this applies primarily to beer drinks);
- Other stores that will join the system;
- Caid machines also available outside of shopping outlets;
- Other collection points.
