The suspension of the mandate is valid as long as Cristian Radu is in preventive arrest, according to News.ro.

“In accordance with the address of the Constanta Court of Appeal, registered at the Prefect's Institution – Constanta county, under no. 16974/28.08.2025, by which we were to be aware of the preventive arrest measure against Mr. Radu Cristian, the mayor of the municipality of Mangalia, today, August 28, 2025, the order of the Municipality was issued. Recently, Cristian Radu was detained by DNA prosecutors for five bribery offenses and one money laundering.

According to DNA, between 2020 and 2025, the mayor would have claimed and received, directly or through intermediaries, the total amount of 645,000 euros. The money would have been requested in connection with the issuance of urban documents, the initiation of local council decisions and other steps that were related to its activity as mayor.

Between 2022 and 2024, the defendant would have claimed the total amount of 80,000 euros from which he would have received, through an intermediary, the amount of 42,333 euros, to let various people carry out beach trade activities or in the area of ​​the Mangalia tourist port without being fined or imprisoned by the Mangalia Local Police. The amount would have been received in the form of the purchases of luxury clothing objects ”is shown in the DNA statement.

Also, in 2020, the mayor would have asked for 70,000 euros and received 20,000 euros for issuing a urbanism certificate and a building permit for a P+12 block in the Neptune resort.

In 2023, Radu Cristian would have benefited from the equivalent of 500,000 euros, consisting of reducing the purchase price of a company, in exchange for transferring some land rental contracts from the Mangalia tourist port. Also in the same year, it would have received 150,000 lei out of the 50,000 euros requested so that two people were not controlled by Mangalia City Hall when building a building in Neptune.

In January-February 2025, the mayor would have received 50,000 euros for a person to obtain from the Constanta City Hall a certificate of attesting the building of a construction made without authorization in the Saturn resort.
