The Russians will torture. Moscow wants to make a prevention convention

The Russian government applied to Vladimir Putin for termination of the European Convention on preventing torture. The application in this matter signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Miszustin was published on Monday on the official portal of legal acts of the Russian Federation.

The application asked for the termination of the 1987 Convention and protocols to it signed by Russia in 1996. No motives of such a step were given.

The convention provides, among others Activities of the European Committee for preventing torture and inhuman or humiliating treatment or punishment, which can easily visit prisons of the countries of the countries.

This committee was criticized by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to death declarations in the penal colony of the opposition leader in Russia Alexei Navalny and torture of people detained after a terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall under Moscow concert. The ministry decided that the committee undertakes “politicized” topics and Russia is “blackmailed”.

Since Russia began a full -glass war against Ukraine, Putin did not reject any request for termination of the Convention on Human Rights, and sometimes initiated it himself. For example, in 2023, he submitted a request to a convention on the protection of national minorities. (PAP)
