Spain has crossed a 16 -day heat wave this month, which was “the most intense ever registered”, supplying the fires, the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announced, according to The Guardian.
The provisional data for the period 3-18 August exceeded the previous record, established in July 2022, and showed an average temperature by 4.6 ° C higher than in the previous similar cases, the agency said on a post on X.
The August heat wave has amplified the extremely fire conditions in Spain, fuel outbreaks that continue to devastate areas of the north and west of the country.
Over 1,100 deaths in Spain were associated with the heat wave, according to an estimate published on Tuesday by the Carlos III Institute.
Since the beginning of the measurements, in 1975, Aemet recorded 77 heat waves in Spain, of which they exceeded over 4 ° C media, five of them taking place after 2019.
The researchers say that the current climatic crisis leads to longer, more intense and more common heat waves.
Aett said that a 10 -day period of the last wave of heat, between 8 and 17 August, was the hottest 10 -day succession in Spain since 1950.
The agency stressed that it is “a scientific fact that the current summers are warmer than in the past decades.”
“It will not necessarily be more hot than the previous one, but there is a clear tendency towards much more extreme cousins. It is essential to adapt and reduce the effects of climate change,” the institution added.
What does the “non-tourism age” mean. “A prediction that no one wanted to hear”
