The European Union has transferred additional financial aid of 4.05 billion euros to Ukraine, shortly before the independence day of this state, August 24, reports DPA, according to AGERPRES.

“The EU solidarity with Ukraine is unwavering. This is our commitment not only for the reconstruction of Ukraine, but also for its future as a sovereign and democratic state,” wrote the president of the European Commission on Friday, Ursula von der Leyen, on the social network X.

According to the Commission, 3.05 billion euros come from the facility for Ukraine, a help program of up to 50 billion euros for the period 2024-2027. The remaining 1 billion euros comes from a macro-financial assistance loan, which is part of an initiative of G7 that total about 45 billion euros.

The Commission also stated that the release of the funds was made possible by the withdrawal of a law that would restrict the independence of the Ukrainian central authorities to fight corruption. She welcomed this endeavor and stressed that reforms in the field of rule of law and combat of corruption remain crucial to continue the road to Ukraine to accession to the European Union.

Since the triggering of the Russian invasion in 2022, the EU and the Member States have promised Ukraine aid of almost 169 billion euros, going from military and financial support to refugees.
