The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, said during the discussions organized by his American counterpart, at the White House, that a summit between US leaders, Russia and Ukraine should be present, a European leader, CNN reports.
“I think, as a continuation, we would probably need a quadrilateral meeting. Because when we talk about security guarantees, we talk about the full security of the European continent,” said the French leader.
Donald Trump seems unlikely to agree with this idea, at least in the short term, while continuing to end the conflict in Ukraine. However, Emmanuel Macron's point of view highlights the stakes that exist not only for Kiev in today's discussions, but also for the rest of Europe.
Donald Trump spoke about the possibility of a trilateral with his counterparts in Ukraine and Russia during the statements he made with President Volodimir Zelenski in the White House Oval Office. At the same time, the American leader said he will also discuss with the Russian counterpart after the Monday meetings.
“I was just telling the president (Zelenski, no) that we just spoke to President Putin indirect and we will have a telephone call immediately after these meetings today, and maybe we will have, maybe, a trilateral. We finish with this meeting, “said Donald Trump.
Located near Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Volodimir Zelenski also said that he is prepared for a trilateral summit with Russian and United States presidents.
