Since the US bought Alaska from Russia in 1867, gold mining plays an important role in the history of this region – emphasize the state authorities. Reports of gold have contributed to the influx of people to Alaska and the creation of many settlements that have survived to this day.

“As a result of a gold fever associated with the extraction of alluvial deposits (during which miners extracted gold from the decks located near the earth's surface), mines were opened in which gold from raw ore was mined” – explain the authorities of this largest state in the USA. “Today, rinsing gold in Alaska has practically disappeared, but in some parts of the state many gold mines still operate,” they emphasize.

Karen Tomasik, who has lived in Alaska for over 10 years, admitted in an interview with PAP that many people in the region are still looking for gold on their own. Trips are also organized in the region, during which you can feel like a seeker of this ore for a moment.

– My friend who, like me, is a retired member of the US Air Force, lives in the area of Anchorage, where there are many gold deposits. He took care of his search in retirement. He bought a suit, equipment. Searches the bottom of watercourses. This cannot be done in a private area, but where the search for gold is legal. No gold seeker will tell you where exactly he succeeds, because he doesn't want others to know his place – Tomasik told PAP, who works at the University of Alaska.

As she said, a darker soil may indicate that there is a valuable crusade in the area. – You need to know what to do. You have to be an expert to really find something. It's not like you just walk and find gold in Alaska. It sometimes really happens, but it's just a bit of happiness. You need to know what to look for. It requires a lot of experience – she said. – It took my friend some time before he got to know this process. But he taught to look for gold even his seven -year -old daughter, who raised a gold worth several hundred dollars – she added.

“I come here as an entertainment, for relaxation, when I have a free day,” 45 -year -old Jr Krause told journalists, looking for gold in a stream under Fairbanks. – This is not a private area, so everyone can come here and look for gold – said the American, who introduced himself as a geologist working in the Fort Knox gold mine.

A man from Wisconsin pointed out that many people are still looking for gold in Alaska as part of recreation. – It's not like you can become a millionaire (…). It's not as you see on television – he admitted.

He said that sometimes a daily gold collection can be one hundred dollars. He himself, due to the fact that – as he argued – he is a geologist, he does not sell the found raw material, but collect him. – Working at gold in Alaska was my dream – he admitted in an interview with journalists near the monument to Felix Pedro, an Italian who discovered gold in this place in 1902. Gold fever, which later exploded in the region, led to the foundation of Fairbanks, the second largest city in Alaska.

The director of the Pogo Golden Mine in Alaska Michael Eckert admitted that geopolitical tensions affect the price of this ore. – We are always looking for ways to be the cheapest, most efficient and sustainable gold production. When the price of gold increases, it is certainly beneficial to us, but it does not change our activity or our approach to gold – added Eckert, answering the question of PAP.

Pogo is the second largest gold mine in Alaska. Last year, the plant produced 283 thousand. ounces (approx. 8770 kg) of this raw material.

As Eckert explained, the mine has “significant potential in the production of critical minerals.” – We have conducted research that showed that we have the possibilities of producing Telluru and Bismut (…) We are open to talks with you and other industries to see what this potential is – he said.

Eckert emphasized that artificial intelligence is used in the industry. – We use the recently installed system monitoring the conversion of the conveyor, supported by artificial intelligence, which turned out to be quite effective. Donons used to make measurements are also sent to the ground – he said.

He admitted that finding qualified people to work in the mining industry is a challenge. The mine trains employees. Local residents are employed, people from other US states, but also from Australia. – In this industry you have to take into account that people move (after work – PAP) around the world – added Eckert, who has been working in mine for 20 years.
