Europe accelerates with the expansion of arms plants. “Generational change”

European arms plant is expanding three times faster than in peace – according to the Satellite analysis of the “Financial Times”. The British journal calls this “reinforcement on a historical scale.”

The “FT” analysis is based on satellite data 150 factories producing bullets and ammunition, belonging to 37 enterprises.

As demonstrated, in about one third, the reinforcement plants included in recent years has been expanded. It comes, among others for preparatory robots or new buildings or access roads.

“The scale and spread suggest a generational change in the field of arms, the transition of Europe from peace production based on the” Just -In -Time “model (technique of production management on a regular basis – PAP) to build an industrial base prepared for more long -term war production” – writes “FT”.

The expansion in the analyzed European defense plants concerned a total area of 2.8 million sq m in 2024-2025. For comparison, in 2020-2021 it was about 790 thousand. sq m.

One of the plants in which the greatest expansion occurred is Varpalota in Western Hungary. This is a project of German Rheinmetall and the State Hungarian company N7. 30 mm caliber ammunition is produced here, and also plans to produce 155 mm and 120 mm.

The EU Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius transferred to the “Financial Times” that from February 2022, i.e. the beginning of the Russian full -lock invasion of Ukraine, the annual ammunition capacity of ammunition production increased in Europe from 300,000. annually up to 2 million in 2025. Rheinmetall, a German arms giant, was produced for a significant part of this growth, in 2022 he produced 70,000. In 2027, it is to be 1.1 million pieces (PAP) in 2027
