Turkish authorities talk about options on replacing the model “all-yo-can” from hotels and restaurants, as a measure to reduce food waste, writes the Turkish newspaper Sabah, taken over by the Russian Tass agency.
Approximately 23 million tonnes of food are wasted annually in Turkey, according to a report. Of these, about 35% of fruits and vegetables reach the garbage before reaching the table.
Therefore, the Presidential Council for Agriculture and Food Policies in Turkey has proposed several measures to combat waste. These measures are to be presented to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and later to be discussed for implementation.
Among the measures taken into account are one that targets the offer “All-Yo-Canat” from the hotels in Turkey.
From here comes a large part of the waste, say the Turkish authorities. Thus, this system can be replaced with one “à la carte”.
“People order how much they want to eat. Instead of seeing everything and not eating, they leave the table with the products they choose and they will fill their stomachs,” said Ramazan Bingöl, member of the Council and president of the Association for all restaurants and tourism (Türes).
He also said that through the “all-you-can” offer are wasted “millions of Turkish pounds”.
