Europe has continued to increase its military aid granted to Ukraine, according to data from May and June, compared to the United States, which only sold Kiev weapons, and European military aid is now based on its defense industry than in existing weapons and which have been diminished by the assistance offered previously Ukraina, the German Institute Kiel also reported.
The European states, including the United Kingdom, have provided Ukraine military aid totaling 80.5 billion euros since the war with Russia began almost three and a half years ago, compared to the aid of about 64.6 billion euros offered by the US.
In the spring of this year the European military aid equal to the American one, and in the meantime it exceeded “a significant proportion of the weapons provided are no longer from stocks, but directly from the defense industry,” notes the Kiel Institute, according to Agerpres.
The stocks of weapons and ammunition of European countries are significantly diminished as a result of the transfers of military equipment to Ukraine during this war.
The largest military support package came from Berlin
The European military aid for Ukraine in May and June totaled about 10.5 billion euros, of which 4.6 billion euros, the equivalent of 44% of the total of these two months, takes the form of public procurement contracts assigned mainly to European defense companies, including Ukrainians.
Germany offered a 5 billion euro aid package, followed by Norway with 1.5 billion euros and Belgium with 1.2 billion euros.
The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Denmark each offered between 500 and 600 million euros.
The latter three are financing included in a new mechanism by which NATO member European states funds US Acquisitions and ammunition to give Kiev, as the US President Donald Trump asked, who no longer wants the US to donate to Ukraine, but only to sell them.
Washington has thus approved significant weapons exports to Ukraine in May, but not in the form of military aid, these being acquisitions that Kiev has to pay from his own funds or those offered by his European supporters.
JD Vance: “I finished with the financing of this war”
The US was the main supplier of military aid for Ukraine before Republican Donald Trump returned to January at the White House, radically changing the policy of his predecessor Joe Biden. However, the United States continued to provide Kiev weapons from the military aid packages already approved by the Biden Administration.
But now “I think (…) I have finished financing this war in Ukraine,” said US Vice-President JD Vance in an interview broadcast on Sunday at Fox News.
“If Europeans want to take over and buy weapons from American producers, we have no problem,” added Vance.
Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, are about to meet in Alaska on Friday to discuss, according to the US president, a possible agreement that could include “territorial exchanges” to end the war in Ukraine.
