Four other patients admitted to the “Floreasca” Emergency Hospital in Bucharest were positively detected with Candida Auris, a very dangerous and resistant fungus, Digi24 reports. The new outbreak is at the ATI section 1. The first public information related to the presence of Candida Auris mushroom at “Floreasca” appeared last month, following the disclosures made by the sister of a patient transferred to Belgium after 53 days of hospitalization in the hospital center.

  • Candida Auris is a very contagious fungus, with a death rate between 30 and 70% in infected patients.

Patients – two women and two men between the ages of 45 and 63, were positively tested at Candida Auris four days ago, according to Digi24.

The ATI 1 section, where the new outbreak was detected, is different from that of the Arși Center, where, on August 1, the outbreak with this very dangerous multi -resistant hospital infection was declared.

The official information was transmitted to the hospital manager and the head of the ATI 1 Section on Monday, Mirea Liliana. Among the measures taken are the prohibition for the medical staff to enter these patients with long or lacquered nails, according to Digi24, citing medical sources.

The management of the “Floreasca” Hospital officially confirmed, by e-mail, that from January 2024 to June 2025, 20 patients with Candida Auris were registered, writes Digi24.

Lavinia's case at Floreasca Hospital

In the summer of this year, in the Floreasca Hospital Center) in Bucharest, an outbreak of Candida Auris, three of the six patients, was detected. One of the patients is Lavinia Vlad, whose sister publicly reported the negligent way she was treated. The woman arrived at a hospital in Belgium infected with Candida Auris after being admitted 53 days in Floreasca.

The term used in the Charleroi hospital is “plague”, according to Alina, the patient's sister, as well as a hotnews source that discussed with a doctor from the hospital in Belgium.

Free Europe wrote on Monday that Lavinia Vlad was not the first patient at the Floreasca Hospital infected with Candida Auris. Seven months before, in December 2024, a patient died infected with the same fungus, but the infection does not appear in the records of the health authorities.

The deceased patient last year was called Marin Vlase, was 72 years old and was admitted to the Clinical Cardiovascular Surgery section in Floreasca, according to the documents seen by Free Europe. He and two other patients have infected each other, accuse their relatives.
