US Vice -President JD Vance said that a solution negotiated in the war between Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to satisfy any of the parties and that any possible peace agreement will leave both Moscow and Kiev “unhappy”, reports Reuters.

Vance claims that the US wants an understanding that both countries can accept.

“It will not make anyone super happy. Both Russians and Ukrainians, probably, at the end of the day, will be dissatisfied about it,” the American official said in an interview for Fox News who has been broadcast on Sunday.

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on August 15, in Alaska to negotiate a conclusion of the Ukraine war. “It will be an exchange of territories, for the benefit of both parties,” said the leader of the United States.

On Saturday, President Volodimir Zelenski said that Ukraine cannot violate its fundamental law on issues related to the territory, stating that “Ukrainians will not offer their territory in the gift of occupants.”

In the interview for Fox News, which was recorded on Friday, JD Vance also said that the US is working on discussing Putin, Zelenski and Trump, but that it does not think it would be productive to meet Russia and Ukraine's presidents before talking to Trump.

“We are at a point where we are trying to realize, honestly, how to schedule this kind, related to the table these three leaders could be placed at the table and discuss the conclusion of this conflict,” added the US Vice-President.

A white house official told Reuters on Saturday that President Trump is open to the possibility of holding a trilateral summit with Vladimir Putin and Volodimir Zelenski in Alaska, but that the plan currently provides for a bilateral discussion with the Russian counterpart.

Ukraine coordinates with its European allies

Following Trump's announcement on Friday, Ukraine and his European allies have tried to present a united front, according to The New York Times.

The leaders of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Finland and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, have issued a common statement that they say that “they remain employees to the principle that international borders should not be modified by force.”

“The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine,” European leaders said.

A few hours later, President Volodimir Zelenski sent on social networks a message of gratitude “to all those who are with Ukraine.”

“The end of the war must be fair and I am grateful to all those who are with Ukraine and our people today, for peace in Ukraine, which defends the vital security interests of our European nations,” he wrote on X.

The coordinated messages came after the dialogues that Volodimir Zelenski wore on Saturday with European leaders. Also on Saturday, Ukrainian and European officials met with JD Vance and other US representatives on Saturday near London.

“We hope and assume that the Government of Ukraine, that President Zelenski will be involved in this meeting,” said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Sunday in an interview for ARD.
