US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he ordered the universal census that would not include the population of illegal immigrants. The list usually takes place every 10 years and the division of places in the House of Representatives between individual states depends on it.

“I recommended our Ministry of Trade to start work on a new and extremely accurate universal list, based on contemporary facts and numbers, and, what is important, on the results and information obtained in the presidential election in 2024. People who are in our country illegally will not be included in the population list,” Trump announced on his social networking site Truth Social.
The president did not provide more details. The US Constitution obliges the authorities to conduct censuses every 10 years and based on its results, the seats in the House of Representatives are distributed according to the population of individual states. All residents are counted in the list, regardless of citizenship.
In the first term, Trump tried to change the way the population is conducted, adding a question to the questionnaire about citizenship. The US Supreme Court finally blocked this change.
The president's order was announced when on his initiative Republicans in Texas are trying to change the boundaries of constituencies, which can potentially give republicans an additional five seats in the House of Representatives. The plan is controversial, among others Because the change would take place not – as usual – after the universal list, but in the middle of the decade.
According to reports, among others “Washington Post”, Trump also considers similar changes in other states, including in Indiana. Meanwhile, the authorities of the states ruled by Democrats – California, Illinois or New York – announced retaliation if the Republicans in Texas are implementing their plan.
