In a response to the correspondent “Kyiv Post” in Washington, a spokesman for the State Department said that “We condemn any effort to undermine the national security and the sovereignty of other countries”, emphasizing that “Moldovans have the right to decide on their own and who will be their future.”

And Andrew d'Anieri, associate director of the Eurasia Center of Atlantic Council, told “Kyiv Post” on Tuesday that the Trump Administration “He's right” to signal the false Russian news meant to manipulate the elections in the Republic of Moldova.

He urged the US government to be prepared to use various tools, including sanctions to convey to the Kremlin that “The violation of the sovereignty of another country will not be tolerated”, Especially as the elections in the Republic of Moldova are approaching and the peace in Ukraine remains far away.

Richard Kauzlarich, an experienced diplomat and was sent presidential for states that became recently independent during the Bill Clinton administration, suggested for the source that the US could take additional measures.

“The US could do more: sanctions against the Russian entities involved are an example, but will the Trump administration do more?”, he said.

Kauzlarich also proposed that the US will provide support to the energy sector in the neighboring country to reduce the dependence of Moldova on Russian gas.

Kremlin's intentions

Last week, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, publicly accused Russia of planning a large -scale interference effort before the parliamentary elections on September 28.

Speaking at a press conference in Chisinau, Maia Sandu warned of a multi -faceted strategy, which involves illegal financing, sophisticated cyber attacks and widely misinformation.

“The Russian Federation He wants to control the Republic of Moldova from autumn ”said the leader of Chisinau, qualifying the alleged plan as a “Direct threat to the security of our state, the sovereignty of the country and the European future of Moldova.” She urged both citizens and institutions to remain vigilant in the face of these threats.

The Moldovan authorities would have identified at least ten main methods of electoral interference. These include illegal use of approximately 100 million euros in cryptocurrency, use of deepfakes, organizing paid protests and manipulating public opinion through the Kremlin affiliated clergy.

The favorite of the voters

The recent polls indicate that the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), a formation in government and founded by Maia Sandu, is in the top of the preferences, with a support of 27%, as the elections on September 28 approach.
