The weather Tuesday, August 5th. The southeast, storms and hail in the west of the country

Tuesday, August 5, comes with extreme weather phenomena in several areas of the country. While Southeast is facing high temperatures in the afternoon, other regions are targeted by storms, torrential rains and hail, according to a yellow code warning issued by ANM.

On Tuesday, August 5, the weather will be marked by strong contrasts in different regions of the country, announces the National Meteorological Administration (ANM). While the southeast of Romania is under the incidence of a yellow code for heat, several counties in the west and northwest are targeted by torrential rain warnings and hail.

In the south and east of the territory, the weather will be warm, and in the south-east of Oltenia, in the south and east of Muntenia, but also in the southwest of Dobrogea, the afternoon will be recorded. The maximums will climb up to 37 degrees Celsius, and the thermal discomfort will be accentuated, the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will reach or even exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

In the rest of the regions, the daytime temperatures will be close to those of the previous day and will be around normal values for the beginning of August.

Atmospheric instability will be present especially in mountain areas, but also locally in Transylvania, Maramureș, northern Oltenia and Muntenia.

Until 10:00, a severe yellow code for several counties from the western part of the country is active, where heavy rains, storms and hail are forecast.

Isolated, the phenomena can be extended in the other regions, and at night the instability will focus in the northwest of the country. The quantities of water will frequently reach 15-20 l/sqm, and in some areas they can climb up to 30-35 l/sqm. In the areas affected by rain there is a risk of hail.

The wind will blow generally weak to moderate, but during the rains it will have intensifications, with bursts that can reach 50-60 km/h.

The thermal maximums of the day will vary between 24-25 degrees in the hilly regions of Crișana and Banat, up to 37 degrees in the south of Muntenia. The minimum temperatures will be between 11 and 20 degrees, with slightly higher values, around 22 degrees, on the coast. In the center of the country, especially in the morning and at night, there are possible fog conditions.

The weather in the capital

In the Capital, Tuesday will be hot. The thermal discomfort will be accentuated, and the temperature-humidity index will easily exceed the critical threshold. The sky will be variable, with serene tendency in the early hours of the day, and the wind will be weak to moderate. The temperatures will reach a maximum of 35–36 degrees, and during the night there will be a minimum of 19-20 degrees, possibly lower, up to 17 degrees, in the pre-Christian area.
