At first glance, the building does not surprise with anything unusual – it is simply a production plant among forests. In front of the gate stands a plate with the inscription “Skrobotowo” – from the name of the owner. Local residents and history enthusiasts, however, know that Several dozen years ago, there was a Soviet nuclear base in these areas, and the nuclear head warehouse was located on the plot in Wiechlice. And this property is now looking for a new owner.

In the two -storey bunker, the nuclear weapon magazine was in the lower part, while the rooms for service, the communication room and the supervisory station – in Górna. Pines were painted on the bunker facade – for camouflage. He was one of the three warehouses for storage and use of this type of weapon that arose in Poland in the late 1960s.
– The bunker was used to store “granite 2” nuclear weapons. Thus, atomic air bombs were stored here. The bunker could accommodate 36 to 38 pieces. Its area is about 600 sq m – says Mariusz Skrobot.
The facility is located about 1.5 km southeast of the runway of the former Soviet military airport Szprotawa-Wiechlice (the owner is the commune). The area in front of the buildings and the entrance gate is partly paved with concrete slabs, and the whole is fenced today with a steel mesh.

Years ago, when the USSR army was stationed here, the whole area – which should not be surprising: after all, it was a secret place subordinate to Moscow's orders – it was surrounded by a double fence of barbed wire under electrical voltage. As described by Maciej Boryna, director of the Szprotawa Land Museum, the whole so -called special zone was divided into smaller, internal wife, which also guarded the barbed wires. And only after the four gates could be reached to the strategic bunker.
Currently, this area does not need this area, and The owner still provides the bunker to those who want to see him. – Recently came, for example, the Lord who was the deputy commander of the militia in Szprotawa years ago and was also in this area – recalls Mr. Mariusz.
And what is in the middle of the post -Soviet bunker today? – Only the floor has survived in addition to the walls – says Mariusz Skrobot with a smile. -There was a ventilation system inside, the temperature had to be between 17 and 22-23 degrees Celsius. Humidity was also regulated thanks to this system – he adds.

How does he know that? – Once a Russian visited us who served here and told me about this place – he says. However, not only the bunker is a remnant of Soviet times, because the other buildings also resemble what happened here several dozen years ago. – I demolished some of the facilities for years, e.g. a building in which the cinema was located. A portrait of Lenin was painted on his facade – says the entrepreneur.

What can you adapt the bunker to?
As emphasized by Mr. Mariusz, the bunker is not a monument, and he is not covered by any legal or conservation regulations. – There is no restrictions, you can even dismantle it. It is simply an element that remained after the Soviet army. It can be adapted to any purpose. This is an industrial area. At one time, the security company wanted to store bank documents that must be stored for 5 years, but nothing came of it – he says.
And he recalls 2002 when he took over the property. – From the very beginning I knew that there was a bunker here. I bought this area just because it was distant from the buildings, it had a hardened square, halls, water and electricity. My company dealt with burning charcoal, so this place was ideal for such activities. And this bunker served me as a storage warehouse for carbon storage. We did not do any renovations inside, we only broke one door that we needed – says the owner.

In the area where today there is an industrial plant, years ago there were also A block with several dozen apartments for employees, concrete guard, observation towers, shelters and trenches. But also a one -story common room, a stone sauna with a chimney, truck garages, as well as the aforementioned cinema that the owner demolished.
Other objects have also been adapted. – The plot I put on sale has an area of 7 hectares. There are three halls of 800 sq m each. For this there was a guardhouse with an area of 180 sq m. It currently serves as a social and residential premises with a canteen for employees and a small office, the garage is about 100 sq m, and the building after the former sauna and boiler room occupies another over 200 sq m-explains Mariusz.
On the gate leading to the plant there are … Soviet stars. – They were made of sheet metal. After years they were destroyed, but we recreated them, painting them with paint – specifies Mariusz Skrobot.
And he adds: – The Russian, who had a Ukrainian passport, who visited this place, told me that he did not think that he would live to the times when his private car would have the opportunity to enter the unit in which he served that he would be able to show his wife and daughter to show these areas, and tell them what he was doing. Another Russian visited, among others A two -story building, which is no longer there, because I also undressed it. And he pointed to the places where the TV stood, where there was a room where they practiced, where the weapon magazine was located. He even pointed to the place where his bed stood. He was a militia colonel in Moscow.

The code name “Wisła” and the declassified folder
Let us add that the Russians denied that nuclear weapons were in Poland. – And they were lying. Soviet military were who visited this place, confirmed in conversations with me that atomic weapons were kept in this bunker – says Mr. Mariusz.
This is also confirmed by the fencing of the Warsaw Pact surgery with the crypeting “Wisła” in 2006. It was within the years 1967-1970 that the Soviets built and equipped warehouses in Wiechlice, and Poles paid for everything. The stored weapon was to be handed over to the Polish army in the event of a conflict with NATO countries. It is not known what the type and power of stored charges were. Cyrillic inscriptions have survived on the buildings of post -Soviet nuclear warehouses in Wiechlice. Interestingly, One of the episodes of the Documentary Program of Bogusław Wołoszański “Sensations of the 20th century” was also filmed in the bunker.
Why did the owner decide to sell the area with the bunker? – After more than 20 years, I got bored of living in the forest and I would like to change the surroundings. But I also have a fondness for this place, which is why I put up a 7-hectare plot for sale, and the other 3 hectares, which are off the beaten track, leave for myself. There is a separate entry there, so it will not interfere with the plans of the new owner in any way – says Mariusz Skrobot.
