Tragedy at the ZOO in Jerusalem. “Visitors were safe”
For unknown reasons, the leopard escaped from his pavilion to the courtyard, where the 36-year-old prepared for visitors a demonstration of the garden work from the backstage. The animal inflicted serious wounds around the man around the neck.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the wounded man was moved to a safe place by other employees without having to hurt the animal. Paramedics quickly arrived, who watched him on the spot, and then transported him to the hospital. After reaching the facility, doctors fought for a man for a long time, but his injuries turned out to be too extensive.
“After prolonged resuscitation, the team was forced to determine death,” Hadassah Medical Center said.
According to the information posted on Instagram, the deceased was the head of the team taking care of predators.
The zoological garden ensures that there was no threat to visitors at any time who were separated from the place of the incident with a glass. The zoological garden in a statement indicated that “staff pain is huge” and “employees' thoughts are with Uriel's family.”
The Israeli police initiated an investigation into tragic events that aims to determine how the leopard got out into the internal courtyard.
Not the first such accident in the biblical zoo in Jerusalem
The Zoological Garden in Jerusalem, known as the Biblical Zoo, is one of the city's most important tourist attractions. As its name indicates, animals found in the Bible are bred in the garden.
In the past, the facility was already a place of similar incidents. Last year, a woman was injured as a result of a crocodile attack. The animal was shot at the time, as a result of which it died.
