The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, told Antena 3 on Wednesday that there is no question not to materialize the meeting between President Nicușor Dan and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, but “rather, our priorities are related to the content of the agenda, the future steps and the way we advance in the United States.”

Asked about the preparations for Nicușor Dan's visit to the US, Oana Țoiu said: “First, this visit is already established from the time of telephone conversation between President Donald Trump and President Nicușor Dan.”

“Romania is no longer at a time when the question arises whether the visit will take place or if the meeting between the presidents will take place. Rather, now, our priorities are related to the content of the agenda, the future steps and the way we advance in the bilateral relationship with the United States,” the head of Romanian diplomacy continued.

She explained that there are “more components” from this point of view.

“The one that was the most present, and in the public space, and in the agenda in Romania, is the component of the presence of US troops in the NATO bases we have on the territory of Romania and this is sure that our number 1 priority remains, in the sense that we must ensure that we protect Romania, that we protect the border of the European Union,” the NATO border added.

The Romania-US relationship, under the economic “potential” that it could have

Oana Țoiu spoke about the economic component of the bilateral relationship.

“For us it is very important to advance the economic component. From our point of view, we are under the potential we could have, both in terms of investments in the United States, here, in the private area, as well as the possibility of expanding some businesses in Romania in the United States market,” said the minister.

The head of Romanian diplomacy claims that our country has also contributed to the negotiations for the Commercial Agreement between the EU and the US, announced on Sunday by US President Donald Trump and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. “We contributed during this period, through the Romanian teams, to the common negotiation between the European Union and the United States. We have some areas that are of interest, especially nuclear energy, for example, the acquisition of aircraft, sure, and the special tariffs related to steel, the development potential in the microchip area and the technology remain for us,”
